Hello, first post but long time lurker.

I’m currently in the middle of making a zombie film (link below) and have come up against criticism about the zombies in the film running. I don’t really understand this, 28 Days later and the dawn of the dead remake both had running zombies and i feel it adds to the scare factor. One of the people commenting on the running zombies quoted simon pegg in the British Guardian as saying “that if they run they aren’t proper Zombies”. I liked Shaun of the dead but it has a scene in it that mocks the slow moving zombies and it didn’t really add anything to the genre. Also for low budget filmmakers getting enough extras to make up the zombie horde of slow moving zombies just isn’t feasible.

It would be good to hear what you think.

I feel very strongly that Zombies *DO NOT* run. I think the films that make zombies run are simply after a cheap trick at adding terror by making them run.
Zombies can be just as terrifying, if not more so, when they are slow - as they are in all the classic zombie movies which shouldn’t go forgotten.

Zombies simply shouldn’t run: they’re the undead, they don’t have the energy to be running around like athletes!

Why? What stops them running, is it because they are dead because i can assure you that dead people don’t walk either.

Zombies don’t run! They’re braindead, lifeless corpses and running simply isn’t something they’re capable of - dragging their bloody carcasses around seeking fresh meat is just about all they can manage.

That’s my preference anyway. I prefer the classic, slow moving zombies rather than the “rage” filled zombies - and those movies are in a huge minority so running really isn’t the norm’.

This is a zombie:
