World Zombie Day: London
Posted by superba
Location:
London
Type: Crawl of the Dead (Booze involved),
Website: myspace.com
Sunday the 26th of October is when zombies all over the globe are going to wrench themselves onto the streets in honour of the 40th anniversary of Night of the Living Dead - AND to do a little for charity, also. The zombs of London are no exception!
WORLD ZOMBIE DAY: October 26, 2008.
A charity fundraising horror event.
WE WILL BE SUPPORTING LONDON’S LARGEST HOMELESS CHARITY, ST MUNGO’S: http://www.mungos.org.
The event itself is free of charge, obviously, but all we ask is that you remember those less fortunate.
Please give generously by donating at our online official Justgiving page:
RISE UP UNDEAD BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!
NOW IS OUR TIME TO GROAN AND SHAMBLE FOR WORLD HUNGER!
- World Zombie Day will be a day when all fans of zombie culture can join together. This charity event will be international. All of the cities involved will do their bit to alleviate world hunger, and this will be a first.
- “The It’s Alive Show”, World Record Holders for the largest zombie walk ever, will spearhead this event from the very birthplace of zombie culture, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
You, my friend, are looking at the page for the London UK (disembodied, rotting) arm of this Day. If you want to get involved, get bloody, get drunk, scare some tourists, do a little bit for charity and have a laugh… then get in touch!
JOIN US.
Look how much fun it can be...!
***!!!HELP NEEDED!!!***
We’ve had a mail from zombie HQ, and apparently, if we want to consider ourselves a part of the world record attempt (they will take a count from every city taking part in WZD for a grand total of zombs gathered), we need independent witnesses.
It’s a pain in the arse but does anyone know of an “official” type bod who could issue a statement, saying we’re not making the numbers up (whatever they end up being on the day) ???
Here’s what the higher-ups have sent me:
1. Signed statements of authentication ("Statements"): by two independent persons ("Witnesses") who have attended the Record Attempt and can confirm all details of the claim:
• where applicable, at least one of the Witnesses should be qualified (or an official) in the subject area of the Record Attempt;
• the Witnesses must have “standing” in the local community, meaning that they must be prominent and respected. Examples of such persons include, public notaries, justices of the peace, police officers, judges, mayors or town councillors and newspaper editors. The job or position of each Witness must be clearly stated on his or her witness statement;
• except where both the Witnesses are members of the same professional body, or are officials of a national sporting organisation (or equivalent body), the Witnesses must be independent of (i.e. not normally associated with or related to) each other as well as independent of you. Witnesses may not take part in the organisation or planning of the Record Attempt nor be a participant in it;
• the Statements may not take the form of pre-prepared printed statements that are simply signed by the Witness. Each Statement must be compiled by the Witnesses themselves (on their own headed notepaper where possible) and include the Witnesses’ signature and full contact information (including name, address, telephone number and/or email address);
• the Statements should confirm (with detail where necessary) that you have abided by the Guidelines.
Anyone know of some likely candidates?! Get in touch if so.

I know kitch, it wouldn’t have been my ideal day either! I think the reason HQ made it a Sunday was solely because they have a weekend of events planned in Pittsburgh, culminating in the crawl/record attempt… so we all had to follow suit!
When I looked on IMDb the actual anniversary of NotLD is the first of Oct - oh! Today! Awww.

If only this wasn’t planned for a Sunday, I’ve got to somehow make it back to Brighton AND remove all the blood etc in time for work on the Monday morning. :s Fun times!

No, nothing as yet unfortunately! I am tearing my hair out. The place we’ve asked to use has been stringing me along for two weeks - just tell me yes or no!
I’ve got a back-up though as as SOON as I get the yay or nay from this guys I will make the meeting point known, I promise.
Stressed!
I hope everyone is still excited though! :D

You’re not missing anything - well, the ‘when’ is Sunday October 26th at midday - but the ‘where’ is still in question. I’ll update as soon as I can.
Flyers are ready for the print as soon as I have a venue to put on them!
And yes, this is giving me a slight mental breakdown! :/

Am I missing something, when and where does this all kick off ? Has anyone done any flyers so we can rope in more undead?
Yay, woo.

ATTENTION!
Our gathering place is no longer at Leicester Square!
I am in talks with council officials to see where we can agree on it happening. I’ll let you know when I know more.
Also… we aren’t collecting money on the day anymore. So PLEASE donate via the lovely Justgiving widget up there if you can possibly afford to.
Thanks zombs. I’ll be in touch again soon. x

Fido is great! Can’t believe I forgot it!
Yeah, I think the blurb is for general record attempts, so that bit doesn’t really count
I do want to be a qualified zombie when I grow up, however.
Zombie Zombie Zombie: Sadly nothing is really set in stone at the moment. It’s wholly not my fault though, I am waiting on people to confirm their involvement/help/etc with me and unfortunately they are taking their sweet time, despite my pestering. Please believe me when I say that as soon as plans are solid, I will let the internet know!
As it stands we’re meeting at midday in Leicester Sq, and at some point will invade The Intrepid Fox pub. Everything else is just pencilled in at the mo.

A qualified or official zombie?

Hey!
Hmmmm… man, there are so many! I mean, ‘Dawn of the Dead’ is the favourite of a lot of zomb enthusiasts, but might appear a little slow to zombie newcomers/people who’ve never seen it before. The remake might be a good, scary gateway drug into zombiedom :D It’s not strictly “canon” but it’s a bloody good film.
‘Shaun of the Dead’, obv, as it’s great in the zombie sense as well as funny. ‘Zombie Flesh Eaters’ is a little off-putting at first due to terrible dubbing, but is really really eerie in places and the special effects are great (no blue facepaint here. They look as though they are actually rotting).
A lesser known one is ‘The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue’, which I ended up *really* enjoying when I put it on one quiet evening.
‘Night of the Living Dead’ is a classic, ‘28 Days (and Weeks, in my opinion) Later’ are particularly good for London dwellers as you can see the zombie apocalypse on your own doorstep!
I’m by no means an expert, but hope these have given you some ideas :D

Hi Superba!
This sounds like so much fun, I’m going to see if I can rope a few friends and work colleagues to join in.
Any recommendations for zombie films to get them in the mood?

Hiya! It’s going to start around noon in Central London (Leicester Square in all likelihood) on Sunday 26th October.
I am working on getting some make-up enthusiasts to come along as well, so I’m sure there will be someone on the day to help you out! :D
